Youth Bible Study, Basic Christian Theology Page 10

Every Christian teacher should have this incredible resource in their library. Teenagers are ready for some Christian apologetics. I've used this book countless times in preparing the Bible Study lessons for youth on this website.

42816: A Ready Defense

A Ready Defense
By Bill Wilson, comp. / Thomas Nelson

Here is evidence for the Christian faith by one of its premier defenders! Topically arranged, this "best of Josh McDowell" gives you more than 60 well-reasoned arguments from creation to the virgin birth to the resurrection of Jesus and much more. Ideal for skeptics who are curious about Christianity and for Christians who want to learn how to defend their faith. 566 pages, softcover from Nelson.

The Bible, a Very Special Book.
teen Bible lesson handout

The goal of this Bible study lesson is the same reason Luke gives for writing his book, “so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.” (Luke 1:4). As kids begin forming their own faith apart from their parents it is imperative we give them a firm base. Confidence in the source of the information used in forming their faith is essential.

This is a two page lesson plan with leaders guide. A lot of information was gleaned out of Josh McDowell's book show above and The Navigators study guide shown below.

This is a great series of Bible Study booklets from The Navigators. The questions and subjects are great for making your own lessons for a teenage Sunday school class. I used some ideas from this book for the Sunday School lesson above. The link is to Barnes & Noble. Their synopsis:

"YOUR PERSONAL EXAMINATION OF BIBLICAL DISCIPLESHIP. You can learn more about the wealth that is available to you in Jesus Christ through this exciting Bible study series. On your own or in a group you can discover what it means to be a Christ-centered disciple, how to develop Christian character, how to have victory over sin, and how to grow toward maturity in your daily walk with God."

God Wants A Monopoly On Your Life
Sunday School Lesson plan

This Bible study lesson focuses on the deceitfulness of possessions and worldly desires. Help your youth group kids look for things that take precedence over their relationship with God. This may be the first time that they think about making a serious commitment to God. Discover the difference in viewing God as a part of our lives compared to feeling that we are servants of God for Him to use in His life.

This is a one page lesson plan with leaders guide. For a pre-lesson activity we play a few hands of the board game Monopoly. I renamed the titles of the squares to things like Money, friends, video game, etc. Better yet, buy the electronic game for your Wii. It's actually fun.

The book below is a remarkable devotional on the same topic, combating materialism. Have a few copies ready and suggest them to parents as a continuing education devotional series for their kids. Download a free sample lesson provided by Simply Youth Ministry - simplifying ministry and saving you time! See how life changing this can be.

Nintendo Wii - Monopoly Here and Now: World Edition
Stripped Clean

Stripped Clean

Give your teenagers a guilt-free, up-close look at materialism--one that strips away the overwhelming messages of a consumer society. You'll see authentic changes in readers as they tear out pages to use in Jesus-centered activities. From the back cover: Do you own your stuff... or does your stuff own you? Like you, Jesus had stuff. Unlike you, it didn't have him. Take a guilt-free, life-changing look at what you have... what it means... and discover how to tread lightly in the world as the steward Jesus calls you to be. Oh yeah: and don't get too attached to this book. As you change, it changes, too. Get free. Get stripped clean. Get down to nothing but Jesus. Storm is a designer, artist, dreamer, dad, and recovering materialoholic who still doesn't have a flat-screen TV... but he wants one. Still on the wagon, man, one day at a time.

Electronic Monopoly turns a very long board game into a fun fast paced event that takes about 10 minutes. It goes with this lesson.
70000: Bibleopoly Game Bibleopoly Game

With Bibleopoly, you can enjoy the fun of a property trading game while learning about the remarkable cities of the Bible! Start "In the Beginning", and travel through biblical cites of Meditation, Community Celebration, and occasionally the Abyss! You can earn a Cornerstone by helping a fellow player, or but doing community service, and make offerings in order to earn the bricks and steeple you need to build a church. Watch out for the "Go Meditate" spot on the board, though--you'll lose three turns! Also, though good deeds are rewarded, sometimes "Faith Cards" intervene. Recommended for 2 to 6 players, ages 8 to adult.

Calloused Hearts
youth bible lesson

The goal of this youth Bible study is to demonstrate the slow degradation of our ideas of right and wrong when we plunge in to societies norms without the knowledge of scripture as a foundation. We demonstrate the change in our attitudes by looking at the changes in acceptable swim wear from 1920 to 1967.

I first wrote this lesson to show how violent video games deaden our sensitivity to killing and death. The boys in one youth group were incensed when I banned Halo and other violent games that my predecessor had played with them a lot, even setting up tournaments. Read more on my blog.

This is a two-page Bible study with a pre-lesson activity that reinforces the lesson. It also includes a teachers guide.
